Our services

How we help at home

Nine core services, mixed and matched into one care plan that fits your family. Every plan is written with you and reviewed as needs change.

Getting started

Starting care takes four steps

  1. 1

    Call or send a request

Tell us what is happening in five minutes on the phone. No script, no pressure, no sales visit.

  2. 2

    A free assessment

A care coordinator meets you, walks through the safety risks, and listens to what your loved one actually wants.

  3. 3

    A written care plan

You get a plan naming every task, day and hour, with the cost in writing before anything begins.

  4. 4

    Meet your caregiver

We introduce the caregiver before the first shift. If the fit is not right, we change it — no questions asked.

About us

A San Antonio family business, caring for San Antonio families

GoodHeart Homes LLC was founded on one belief: that people heal, remember and thrive better in their own homes, surrounded by their own things.

Gil FloresFounder, GoodHeart Homes LLC

Why we started

Gil Flores founded GoodHeart Homes LLC in 2020 on a simple conviction: that people are better off in a real home than in an institution — surrounded by their own things, known by name, and looked after by people who notice when something is not right.

Six years on, that is still how we run. We are locally owned rather than a franchise, we answer our own phone, and our home on Regal Street is a short drive from nearly every family we serve. Compassionate care, given the way you would want it given to your own.

What we believe

  • Home first. Facility care has its place, but it should be the choice a family makes, not the one they fall into because nobody showed them another option.
  • The same face, every visit. Continuity is the single strongest predictor of whether care works. We protect it even when it makes scheduling harder for us.
  • Dignity is not optional. We knock. We ask before we help. We talk to the person, not about them.
  • Families deserve the truth. If your loved one needs skilled nursing, memory care or hospice instead of us, we will say so and help you find it.

Our standards

How a caregiver joins GoodHeart Homes

Roughly one in seven applicants makes it through. That is on purpose.

  1. Step 1

    Application and phone screen

We look for people who have cared for someone in their own family. It shows.

  2. Step 2

    Statewide background check

Criminal history, sex offender registry, driving record and licence verification.

  3. Step 3

    Reference calls

Two supervisors, not two friends. We ask what they were like on a bad day.

  4. Step 4

    Skills assessment

Transfers, bathing technique, infection control and kitchen safety, demonstrated in person.

  5. Step 5

    Orientation and training

Dementia care, emergency response, privacy, and how to write a visit note a family can actually use.

  6. Step 6

    Shadow shift

A new caregiver shadows an experienced one before working alone. Every time, no exceptions.

Ready when you are

Our caregivers

The people who will be looking after your family

We keep our caregivers' names and details off the website, out of respect for their privacy. You will meet whoever is caring for your loved one before care begins.

How a caregiver joins GoodHeart Homes

Roughly one in seven applicants makes it through, and that is on purpose. Every caregiver clears a statewide criminal background check, a driving record and licence check, reference calls to former supervisors rather than friends, and a hands-on skills assessment before they ever work a shift.

They are our W-2 employees, not contractors, which means payroll taxes, workers' compensation and liability coverage are ours and never yours. New caregivers shadow an experienced one before working alone — every time, no exceptions.

  • You meet them first. We introduce whoever will be in the home before the first shift, not on the morning of it.
  • The same faces. Continuity is the strongest predictor of whether care works, so we protect it even when it makes our scheduling harder.
  • Change the match freely. If the fit is not right after a visit or two, tell us and we will change it. There is no awkward conversation to have — that part is our job.

Testimonials

Family stories

We are early days, and we would rather show you nothing than show you something we made up.

No reviews here yet

Plenty of care websites open with glowing quotes from families nobody can name. We would rather this page stay empty until the families we serve have something real to say, and then print it word for word.

In the meantime, the better test is to come and look. Walk the house, meet whoever is on shift, and ask them anything you like.

Ready when you are

Come and see the home. That is worth more than any review.

Careers

Caregiving, treated like the skilled work it is

Nothing open at the moment — but good caregivers are hard to find, so we would still like to hear from you.

W-2 employment

Payroll taxes, workers' compensation and liability covered by us, never by you.

Paid training

Orientation and continuing education on the clock, not on your own time.

Schedules that fit

Tell us your availability. We build around school pickup, second jobs and church.

Mileage and overtime

Paid mileage between clients and time-and-a-half past 40 hours. Always.

No openings right now

We are small and our team is full at the moment. That changes, usually with little warning, and when it does we would rather call someone who already reached out than start a search from nothing.

If you have cared for someone — professionally or in your own family — send us your details and we will keep them on file.

Know someone who would be good at this?

Send them our way. Good caregivers usually know other good caregivers.

FAQ

Questions families ask before they call

If yours is not here, call (210) 834-4587 any hour and ask a person.

What does non-medical home care actually include?
Non-medical care covers everything that keeps someone safe and comfortable without clinical treatment: bathing and dressing, meals, medication reminders, housekeeping, transportation, companionship and supervision. It does not include wound care, injections, IV therapy or skilled nursing. If your loved one needs those, we will tell you and help you find a home health agency that provides them.
How quickly can care start?
Most families have a caregiver in place within 24 to 48 hours of the assessment. Hospital discharges are our fastest turnaround — call us from the room and we can often cover the same evening.
What does it cost?
Cost depends entirely on the level of care and the schedule, so we quote it for your situation rather than publishing a number that would be wrong for most families. Call (210) 834-4587 and we will walk through it on the phone. You will have the exact cost in writing before care begins — no assessment fee, no setup fee, no cancellation penalty.
Does Medicare pay for this?
Medicare generally does not pay for non-medical care. Long-term care insurance usually does, and we bill those carriers directly. Veterans and surviving spouses may qualify through VA Aid and Attendance, and Texas Medicaid waiver programmes cover some families. We will walk through every option with you at no charge.
Can we choose our caregiver?
Yes. We propose a match based on care needs, personality and schedule, and you meet them before the first shift. If the fit is not right after a visit or two, tell us and we will change it. There is no awkward conversation required — that part is our job.
What happens if our caregiver is sick?
Our coordinator covers the shift, usually before the family is even aware there was an issue. Every client has at least one backup caregiver who has already read the care plan and met them.
Do you provide care overnight or on holidays?
Yes. We staff 24/7, including nights, weekends and every holiday. Overnight care comes as awake-overnight or sleep-overnight, whichever the situation calls for.
Are your caregivers screened?
Every caregiver passes a statewide criminal background check, driving record review, employment and reference verification, TB screening and a skills assessment. They are our W-2 employees — not contractors — so payroll taxes, workers' compensation and liability coverage are ours, never yours.
Is there a long-term contract?
No. Care is arranged week to week. You can increase, decrease or stop service with 48 hours' notice.
What areas do you serve?
All of San Antonio and Bexar County, plus Schertz, Converse, Live Oak, Universal City, Alamo Heights, Helotes, Boerne, Selma, Cibolo and New Braunfels. If you are just outside that ring, call us — we will usually still come.
How do you handle dementia behaviours?
Our caregivers train in redirection rather than correction: we do not argue with a false belief, we join the person where they are and gently steer. Routines stay identical day to day, because predictability is what lowers agitation. For sundowning we adjust light, noise and activity in the late afternoon, before the agitation starts.
How do you keep families informed?
Caregivers log tasks, meals, mood and medication reminders at the end of every shift, and your coordinator is reachable at any hour. Families who live out of town usually settle into a weekly call, plus a message whenever something changes.

Still deciding?

A five-minute phone call usually answers more than an hour of reading.
